Apparently, it is much easier, in that it is potentially do-able, to rescue people from collapsed mines than from sunken submarines.
I would have thought in theory these two situations would be very similar.
Guess not.

Yes if people get trapped down a mine we automatically assume that they are good blokes who were just in the wrong place. Really think about it, out of all the people you have met how many are really good blokes. I recon one if not both of these guys would probably be a complete and utter prick. After 14 days down in a little cage with a member of the general population i would kill him in his sleep.
Also in the sub it was Russians. Since when has the world or even the russian government cared about the general population of russia. It really isnt worth getting the people out, you have to deal with 100 pissed off russian sailors. Easier and cheaper to just let them be buried at sea.
